Plesio is a municipality in the Province of Como in the Italian region Lombardy and is situated on the Western shore of the lake with a population of around 850 people. It is approximately 30km north east of Como.
Plesio is called the 'Pearl' between the mountains and the lake as it is such a beautiful location. Narrow streets with cobbled pathways and picturesque buildings, some still with stone and slate architecture, which dates back to the 1300's, all add to the beauty of this charming village. The village has seen many changes over the centuries and been home to many people. Nomadic hunters who lived in caves, followed by the Celtic people, then Greek colonists brought here by the Romans. During the eleventh century huge walls were built to help provide fertile terraces on which to grow their crops. | |
